Organizing Your Food Drive
Food drives are an essential donation source for The Bow Valley Food Bank, producing much needed staple food items. Food drives can also generate monetary collections and increase public awareness.
Step #1 – Establish dates and a theme. Having a birthday, anniversary or holiday party and you have enough flowers, perfume or chocolates? Ask your guests to bring a non-perishable food item or donate money to help feed the needy in your community.
Step #2 - We encourage community groups to contact us when preparing an event. We can lend support by providing volunteers and assist with pre-event promotion by posting the event on our website.
Step #3 - When organizing an event understand what types of foods are best and check the Most Needed Items.
Step #4 – Promote your food drive by spreading the word. Contact the local newspaper, radio station, e-mails, flyers and posters at grocery stores, schools or library.
Step #5 – To coordinate a food delivery time, contact the Food Bank at 678-9488. For large food drives (more than 300 lbs) the Food Bank can arrange volunteers to pick up the food, however, at least one week prior notice is needed.
Step #6 - Make sure to announce the results and thank everyone who contributed to the success of the drive. If you would like a representative from the Food Bank to attend a cheque presentation or award ceremony, please let us know. The Bow Valley Food Bank will send an acknowledgement of your donations
